Instead, the church was consecrated in 1193 as a monastery church for Benedictine nuns, and by 1380, it also served as a parish church.

The church's architecture evolved over centuries, with the nave taking the form of a three-aisled hall with five bays during the Gothic period in the 14th century. Among its most notable features is the baptismal font from the same era, which is considered one of the most significant artifacts in the region.
