Empress Elizabeth of Austria, known as Sisi, visited Bournemouth in 1888, and her daughter attended Mass at the church. The French poet Paul Verlaine, who taught at a nearby school, was a frequent visitor. Additionally, the church was the site of a Mass attended by Archbishop Francis Bourne in 1910, celebrating Bournemouth's centenary.
