Villa Fiorita

Villa Fiorita Brugherio

Villa Fiorita

Villa Fiorita, nestled in the heart of Brugherio, Italy, is a delightful blend of history and charm that beckons visitors to explore its storied past and picturesque surroundings. This historic villa, which now serves as the municipal seat, is an architectural gem that offers a glimpse into the region's noble heritage and its evolution over the centuries.

The History of Villa Fiorita

The roots of Villa Fiorita stretch back to the early 18th century when it was originally a noble house with rustic elements and a garden, owned by the Scotti family. This aristocratic lineage had deep ties to Brugherio, dating back to the early 1500s. In 1778, the villa changed hands when it was sold to Gaspare Ghirlanda, who initiated significant renovations and embellishments that have left a lasting imprint on the villa’s character.

Later, the villa became the summer residence of the Noseda family, prominent landowners from Milan. The early 20th century saw further transformations when the Bertani brothers acquired the property, eventually leading to its conversion into a textile mill under the ownership of Gaetano Marzotto.

From Noble Residence to Municipal Hub

In 1938, Villa Fiorita underwent a dramatic change in purpose as it was transformed into a clinic specializing in nervous disorders. This period of its history is notably marked by the residency of the renowned painter Filippo de Pisis, who used the villa’s greenhouse as his studio from 1949 to 1956. The villa’s journey continued when it was acquired by the municipality in 1963, leading to extensive renovations that respected its historical essence while modernizing it for public use. The villa was inaugurated as the municipal seat on December 17, 1978.

Architectural Highlights

Villa Fiorita’s architecture is a captivating mix of historical styles. The facade, restored to its original grandeur, features a portico with three elegant arches supported by granite columns. Although many of the original frescoes have been lost, remnants of 18th-century frescoes depicting mythological scenes can still be found in the entrance hall and the central salon. These artistic treasures offer a window into the villa’s opulent past.

The grand staircase leading to the upper floor boasts a stunning mural titled Arti e mestieri by artists Max Squillace, Franco Ghezzi, and Gian Mario Mariani. This vibrant fresco captures the essence of cultural and social evolution, depicting scenes of agriculture, industry, family, and the indomitable human spirit.

The Enchanting Park of Villa Fiorita

Behind the villa lies a sprawling English-style romantic park, covering approximately 7,000 square meters. Originally a modest garden, it was expanded in the late 19th century into a classic romantic landscape. Visitors can wander through its winding paths, discovering artificial hills, irregular tree plantings, and charming rocailles that define its informal aesthetic.

The park is home to over 600 trees, including majestic specimens like the monumental hackberry, the elegant Sophora japonica, and the historic bamboo grove. It also features a playground for children and a small kiosk, making it a perfect spot for families to relax and enjoy the natural beauty.

The Serra De Pisis

Within the park stands the Serra De Pisis, a botanical greenhouse that once served as the studio for Filippo de Pisis. This serene space, surrounded by greenery and bathed in natural light, continues to inspire visitors with its artistic and historical significance.

Villa Fiorita is more than just a municipal building; it is a living testament to the rich tapestry of Brugherio’s history. From its noble beginnings to its role as a cultural and administrative hub, the villa invites you to step back in time and experience the elegance and allure of a bygone era. Whether you’re exploring its architectural marvels or enjoying the tranquility of its park, Villa Fiorita promises a memorable and enriching experience for all who visit.
