By 1874, the church was completed and consecrated by the Bishop of Llandaff, Dr Alfred Ollivant, on 4 July. Over the years, it has served not only as a place of worship but also as a venue for civic services, including Scout and Guide events, due to its proximity to Newport Civic Centre.
