Through the generosity of the community, funds were raised, additional land was acquired, and plans for a new building were drawn. The foundation stone for the new church was laid on July 17, 1891, and two years later, on July 19, 1893, the church was dedicated by John Wogan Festing, the Lord Bishop of St Albans. The construction of the church, designed by architect Eley Emlyn White, cost £11,000—a significant sum at the time.
In May 1904, St John's achieved the status of a parish church in its own right. Over the years, it has undergone several restorations, including the cleaning and restoration of the chancel and sanctuary in 1961 and the nave and aisles in 1966. The exterior stonework was also restored in 1973 to mark the church's centenary.
St John's Church is a Grade II listed building, recognized for its architectural and historical significance. The church's design features a blend of Gothic Revival elements, characterized by pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and intricate stonework.
