However, the aftermath of World War II brought a significant influx of displaced individuals, necessitating the construction of a larger church.

In response to this growing need, the Diocese of Fulda commissioned the construction of a new church in 1958. Designed by architect Georg Drobe, the foundational stone was laid on November 2, 1958. The church was consecrated in a two-part ceremony on June 27 and 28, 1959, by Bishop Adolf Bolte. This marked the beginning of a new chapter for the Catholic community, which celebrated their first Peter and Paul Day in the new sanctuary shortly thereafter.

Architectural Features

The Erlöserkirche is a hall church with a rectangular floor plan and a semi-circular apse, topped with a gabled roof. The interior is notable for its open roof truss, creating a sense of spaciousness and light. A striking feature of the church is the large eleven-part window in the choir, symbolizing the creation and redemption of the world. This is complemented by an exquisite mosaic in the apse, created in 1976, depicting Christ Pantocrator, inspired by the mosaics of Ravenna.

Standing 20 meters tall, the church's bell tower is a prominent feature, housing four bells cast in 1961 by the Wilhelmshütte foundry. These bells harmonize beautifully with those of the nearby Evangelical Church of Our Lady. Inside, the organ, built in 1985, boasts 21 registers and 1,300 tin pipes alongside 84 wooden ones, providing a rich auditory experience during services and concerts.

The Exterior Mosaic
