With the influx of refugees, the congregation grew even larger, prompting Dechant Augustinus Reineke to propose a unique dual-church concept. This innovative idea featured two altars: one for Sunday services and another for weekday worship and private devotions. Architects Josef Lucas and Hermann Gehrig collaborated to bring this vision to life.

The foundation stone was laid on May 3, 1950, and by March 11, 1951, the church was consecrated, receiving the name Heilig Kreuz. The building, along with parts of its interior, was declared a protected monument in 2009, preserving its historical and cultural significance for future generations.

Constructed as a three-aisled basilica with a prominent tower, the church is built from pumice stone sourced from the Neuwied Basin, supported by a concrete skeleton.
